Daily goods are the most standard orders. The gain is not packing harder — it is standardising and looking up: fixed box sizes, fixed fill, fixed order.
Standard steps
- VerifyScan/read the list; check item, quantity and colour.
- Lookup the boxTake a pre-folded smallest-fit box by a quantity rule — no decision.
- Pad the bottomA layer of kraft paper or thin foam.
- Place itemsHeaviest on the bottom, lighter on top.
- FillFill to snug — no movement when shaken; don’t overfill.
- Paperwork, sealH-method.
- Weigh & labelAt the station immediately, then stage by carrier.
Box & fill
- 3–4 core sizes cover ~85% of orders;
- Mostly kraft paper / standard air pillows, a little foam;
- Use mailers for soft goods to save boxes and freight.
Daily goods suit task batching best: wrap all, box all, seal/label all — batches of 10+ often cut ~1/3.
Verify the address face-to-face (read it out loud), do the shake test after sealing, check item/colour/quantity before boxing, and confirm payment before shipping. Each takes seconds and prevents an error that costs an hour.
Equipment prices are indicative Australian retail bands in AUD for 2026. They vary by brand, retailer, promotion and over time, and exclude GST, freight and installation; the invoice at purchase prevails. “Seconds saved” are ranges from published warehouse-operations material — estimates, not guarantees. Time your own process with a stopwatch first. See Sources & method.
See boxes & mailers and void fill; flow is in the ideal 9-step sequence.
